5 Resources for New Screenwriters

Submitted by on June 17, 2009 – 2:16 amNo Comment

Here’s a quick list of 5 resources I find helpful or fun as an aspiring screenwriter. I may have mentioned a few in the past, and I probably mention them again in the future — bookmark these asap!

1. JohnAugust.com – a great place for aspiring screenwriters interested in hearing what it’s like in Hollywood as a pro screenwriter.

2. WordPlay - a repository full of long posts mostly from Terry Rossio of the Terry and Ted writing team behind such films as Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, Aladdin, and tumble more of successful films. Problem Solved is probably my favorite post.

3. Mystery Man on Film – a great source for analytical posts covering screenplays currently on screen as well as those collecting dust.

4. TriggerStreet.com – I came across this place years ago, and I’ve always remembered it as a helpful resource as an aspiring screenwriter and filmmaker. I always point screenwriters interested in professional feedback to this site first, because I believe you should always start out with free feedback before hiring a pro.

5. SydField.com – Always good to see what Syd’s up to these days. Great teacher to count on to deliver the basics in an easy-to-understand way. I’d recommend his DVD.
